Here’s some good news for our movie buff members! We hereby introduce a new series of member events, the Movie Club series, which centres on the discourse on the portrayal of mental illnesses in Hollywood movies. Are you eager to empathize and relate to your peers through constructive conversations? Are you fascinated by the multi-faceted and intricate human experiences, especially the experiences of those who are suffering from mental illness(es)? The movie club series is an excellent opportunity for you to do just that.
In this series of events, we will uncover the nuances behind a certain kind of portrayal of mental illnesses in movies. Each month, you will get to have constructive discussions on one or two specific mental illness(es) that are often misunderstood in the public discourse, the discussion will centre on the recommended movies for each session. If you can’t watch all of the suggested movies in time for the sessions, we’ll provide you with the plots of the movies.
