CareER Scholarship Program
Purpose and Scope
This scholarship award is set up to give recognition to students with disabilities or special educational needs (SEN) in the pursuit of excellence in participating in community services and commitment to the community, achievement in extracurricular activities and their willingness to challenge themselves to experience new exposures. Hence, their academic achievements are not the main focus of the selection criteria for the scholarship award.
Objectives
- To empower the awardees with more exposure in the community
- To allow the awardees to have greater exposure to learn about employment situations, practices and prospects
- To support the awardees to experience the workplace first-hand and to pursue continuous training and studies to enhance their employment prospects and opportunities
- To provide some financial support to the awardees to enable them to acquire assistive equipment and technology to enhance their employment prospects and opportunities
- To introduce narrative practice to beneficiaries through storytelling and story-writing workshops, to engage the awardees in knowledge and experience sharing with their peers, and to facilitate a better mentorship experience
- To empower the awardees and enhance their disability acceptance
Program Highlights
Monetary Awards
- Post-secondary Group: Eight grants of HK$15,000 each will be awarded to successful candidates.
- Senior Secondary Group: Eight grants of HK$8,000 each will be awarded to successful candidates.
Summer Internship and Job Shadowing Opportunities at Kerry Group
Selected post-secondary shortlisted applicants or awardees will have the opportunity to work as summer interns at Kerry Group, while selected senior-secondary awardees will have the chance to job shadow at Kerry Group to gain first-hand workplace experience in the summer.
6-Month Mentorship Program
Awardees will be divided into groups, and each group will be assigned at least one CareER alumnus as their mentor. The mentorship matching will be arranged in reference to mentors’ and mentees’ disabilities and career interests.
Team Building Day Camp
To strengthen the mentorship experience, a day camp with structured team-building activities will be held.
Narrative Practice Workshop
All awardees and their mentors will participate in the Narrative Practice Workshop, where they will explore their strengths and values and gain deeper self-understanding through storytelling. The workshop also encourages awardees to learn from the experiences shared by their peers and mentors.
Career Talk and Alumni Sharing
Throughout the scholarship program, awardees will have the opportunity to attend two career talks or alumni sharing sessions.
Eligibility and Criteria
- Applicants must be holders of a valid Hong Kong PERMANENT identity card, which states that the holder has the right of abode in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)
- Applicants must have a disability or special educational needs (SEN) confirmed by medical professional(s) with the relevant supporting document issued within 2 years
- Incoming exchange students not pursuing their entire academic programmes at their respective schools are NOT eligible for the award
- Post-secondary applicants must be current students or graduates of local higher education institutions, regardless of the funding source of the institutions, i.e. both self-financing local programmes and publicly-funded programmes are eligible.
- Senior Secondary applicants must be current students in Form 4 to 6 at local schools (including special schools) in the academic year of the application period
Required Documents for Application
Applicants are required to complete the online application form and enclose the scanned copies of the following documents:
- Your curriculum vitae (not exceeding 2 pages) in English
- Your valid student card issued by the school attending; or a copy of the graduate certificate(s) (for post-secondary applicants who have already graduated)
- The relevant document(s) confirming your disability/SEN by medical professional(s), issued within 2 years from their scholarship application form submission date
